Our supporters & ambassadors

StreetWork Ambassador - Mark Ella

Considered one of Australia's all-time greatest rugby union players, Mark Ella earned 25 caps in a brief but brilliant career stretching from 1980 to 1984. And in 2005 he was honoured by being inducted into the Australian Rugby Union Hall of Fame. As Mark said at our 2011 Glam and Grunge Carpark dinner - there is a need for more people in the community to support those kids that are lacking a mentor or role model like the StreetWork team.

Now living in Sydney, Mark's brilliant career in media, NITV makes him a great ambassador for us.

StreetWork Ambassador - Dr Renee Lim

Renee Lim has a multifaceted career, working as a doctor in the specialties of Emergency, Geriatrics and Palliative Care, as a professional performer across all media as an actress and presenter, and as a teacher with the Pam McLean Centre, a leading institution in communication and conflict management for health professionals.

Her skills and experience in these fields, as well as her personal life story coming from a broken home, have fueled her passion for the importance of helping StreetWork teens at risk.

StreetWork Ambassador - Mark Kerry

Mark is well known both as Australian Olympic swimmer of the 1970s and 1980s and as a successful businessman now running the K2 group across Australia. Mark knows all too well the valuable role caring mentors and community minded people had on his own career and success in the pool and business world.

Kerry says “there are so many young people  in our community today that are lacking a parent or other role model in their lives and with the help of StreetWork, we can help out these young people and help put them back on track.” When I speak to the lowly paid youth workers and the hundreds of local volunteers at StreetWork I am inspired by the amazing work they continue to do in tough and difficult situations”

StreetWork Ambassador - Christine Burke

As only the eleventh Australian woman to summit Mount Everest, Chris Burke knows what it takes to overcome some of the worlds biggest challenges. Speaking to CEO Andrew Crawford, Chris says, "One of the most surprising discoveries about the climb was the similarities it had to everyday life as a lawyer – managing resources, mitigating risk, the politics, the stress and lack of sleep, combined with some new challenges – oxygen malfunctions, rescue operations and avalanches."

Chris is a partner with legal firm Gilbert & Tobin and reports “I learn something new about the experience and myself every day. I am very respectful of the fact that she (the mountain) was in good spirits on our summit day and she allowed us to summit and descend safely, with our health.

StreetWork Ambassador - Mike Munro

As many of our regular Christmas dinner attendees know, Mike cites a tough childhood with an abusive and alcoholic mother, as one of the main reasons behind his motivation to succeed. Mike is a local and attended Sacred Heart Primary School in Mosman and Marist College North Shore in North Sydney. He began his career at 17 as a copyboy on The Daily Mirror in 1971 and since then has covered some of the biggest media stories in our modern history.

Mike means what he says and reckons actions speak louder than words when it comes to mentoring.

"Mike has not only been StreetWork's key speaker at our annual dinners over the years, he also has for many years been a hands on volunteer mentor to some of our kids needing help and that is really great leadership" said  Andrew Crawford at the 2012 annual dinner.

StreetWork Supporter- Monty Panesar

International cricket star Monty Panesar has come on board to support StreetWork and donated his bat (The Mentor) to raise valuable funds at our StreetWork annual dinner. At the dinner Monty talked with our supporters about his passion for supporting and encouraging youth to work with a mentor and learn off eachother.

Monty says - "I am very pleased to support the tremendous work of the StreetWork youth workers and hard working volunteers"
