Connecting the Dots film screening and Panel Discussion

Watch the 'Connecting the Dots' film and join our panel discussion afterwards about youth mental health.

What would it take to shift the dial on young people’s mental health?

Join us in this important conversation in 2022.

Mental health charities are doing it tough. The climate is one of concern, fear and HOPE for a better 2022 for young people. Social isolation, loneliness and unemployment are the top risks for suicide and no thanks to COVID-19, our community has lost many of the natural protective factors for young people.

Do you remember what it was like to have your parents say “I’ve given you so much…you should be happy!”...Why aren’t you happy?

Connecting the Dots is the first feature documentary of its kind to offer a raw and intimate look at youth mental health from a global perspective. With heart-felt poignant stories of lived experience, the film exclusively showcases young voices from around the world breaking barriers surrounding youth mental health. Through highly cinematic and character driven storytelling, Connecting the Dots is emotional, reflective and hopeful. Our young leaders are speaking up. It's time to listen.

Click below to watch the trailer.

Event Details

We welcome you to join us on Thursday 28 April, from 7pm-9.30pm, at Collaroy United Cinema for this screening of Connecting the Dots by award winning Canadian director, Noemi Weis and a panel discussion afterwards.

Panel Discussion: StreetWork is on the panel discussion following this film screening.

Tickets Bookings: Click here

Date and time: Thursday 28 April, from 7pm-9.30pm

Address: 1097 Pittwater Rd, Collaroy NSW 2097

Following the screening, the panel with young people, clinicians and youth services representatives will discuss some of the key themes from the film, including the local impact on the community. You'll also have a chance to join in and ask questions.

Please note that this film includes young people speaking openly about their mental health and the panel discussion may be discussing sensitive topics relating to mental health.

This event is also restricted to ages 16+ (only ages 16 years and above are permitted to attend).

Give where you live!

When you donate to our Youth Impact Fund, we’ll match the amount you give up to $50,000, doubling the difference you can make! 100% of your contribution will go towards a grant program of youth-chosen and championed projects in the second half of 2022 and guess what? All donations over $2 are tax deductible!

A note on safety....

We have capped tickets to no more than 70% capacity of the venue to ensure there is the option of your choice to have the seats either side of you vacant. COVID-19 Safe Check in will be available at each venue

SUPPORTERS' BREAKFAST (VIRTUAL EVENT)

To say that this year is different is an understatement.  Perhaps this period of lockdown gives us the opportunity to reflect on how important it is to be able to spend time with friends and family and to feel confident that we can draw financial support, when we need it most, from government assistance programs.

Since the beginning of the year, StreetWork has been tested in a way that we have never experienced before. We are surviving and will eventually return to some normality.  Our Youth Case Workers have told us about the extraordinary challenge this period has been for our at risk young people.  During lockdown their issues have multiplied in their intensity and we know that this  will have serious, ongoing consequences for their health, safety and well being over the next 12 months.

StreetWork Supporters’ Breakfast – Saturday, 27 June at 8am

At this time of the year, StreetWork usually stages our Supporters’ Breakfast.  With your breakfast attendance and tax deductible donation we are able to continue caring for the young people in our KickStart Mentoring Program.  However, this year we can’t hold our Supporters’ Breakfast in person and we have had to think differently!  So, we are inviting you and your guests to attend the event virtually, through ZOOM.  It’s easy to join us.  Simply organise your hot beverage and breakfast roll and then click on this link https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88228656916.

We’ll do the rest – our Youth Case Workers will share some stories; we’ll let you know how we’ve pivoted in response to COVID-19; and we’ve also arranged for a guest speaker, Dr Jodie Lowinger to join us. If you would like some help on how to join this meeting via your computer, or wish to make a donation by phone please call us on 02 9419 7559. Let’s all work together to help our at-risk young people through this very difficult year.

The Long Late Lunch

POSTPONING OF THE LONG LATE LUNCH

Message posted: 13 March 2020

In light of the ever-changing environment relating to Corona virus (COVID-19) and information we’ve received today from the Department of Health (DoH) in relation to minimising its spread within the community, the Long Late Lunch Organising Committee and I have made the very, very difficult decision to postpone tomorrow’s event. At this stage, I’d like to say that we’re postponing the Long Late Lunch until a later date when the general environment surrounding COVID-19 has settled and the ‘all clear’ is given.

StreetWork, in consultation with the DoH, recognises that some of the guests attending the LLL were from vulnerable sectors of the community, that is, the elderly and carers of young children and infants; given the event’s close proximity to NSW’s reported COVID-19 hot spots of Ryde and Hornsby; and a reported positive case in Wahroonga, and StreetWork’s responsibility to ensure the health and safety of guests, volunteers and suppliers, we had no alternative but to postpone the event.

I acknowledge the huge commitment and contribution that Chantelle Fornari-Orsmond and Corrine Williams, from the StreetWork LLL Organising Committee, our event sponsor, SOS Removals and Storage, North Shore Mums, catering sponsors – Café Patina, The Butcher’s Block and Kipling’s Garage Bar, other sponsors including Ku-ring-gai Council, Twined, Printhie Wines, Margan Premium Hunter Valley Wines, Sydney Brewery and Nicholas Fiennes - Fine Photography plus other donors … they are all very disappointed with the difficult decision that has been made.   I would encourage everyone to consider supporting these local business now, and into the future, given their support of StreetWork and this event.

Thank you for your understanding and feel free to call the office (9419 7559) if required.

CHATSWOOD SLEEPS ROUGH

The Chatswood Sleeps Rough event aims to increase awareness of homelessness in Australia by providing a taste of what homelessness is like. With an increasing number of Australians experiencing domestic violence and youth homelessness each year, this is a reality that we, as a community, have to acknowledge. The streets are no place for a person to live on. As such, Chatswood Sleeps Rough endeavours to address the root causes of homelessness and reverse this worrying trend; and at the same time to raise funds to help people experiencing homelessness.

Why not consider ‘sleeping rough’ and raising some funds for StreetWork too. More information from https://www.chatswoodsleepsrough.com.au

GLAM AND GRUNGE FUNDRAISING NIGHT - Paddington Town Hall

Glam n Grunge is not your average "do". In keeping with the gritty environment in which we work, we throw our annual fundraiser dinner in cool pop-up venue - in garages, in factory warehouses or in basement carparks. Add to this 'alternative' venue, top drawer catering, a selection of fine wines and leading entertainers. The focus is on fun not speeches and our aim is to raise money for 'at risk' young people. For "Glamour and Grunge"... think tux and thongs or ball gowns with Dr Martens. Or maybe he's grunge and you're glam.

Premium Wine Package

We are offering a Premium Wine Package for 10 tables only, of the award winning Tempus Two Pewter Series. Tempus Two is from McGuigan Wines, a winemaker of four generations dating back to 1869, and named International Winemaker of the Year in 2016. Our Premium Wines are 2016 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, 2017 Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris and 2015 Botrytis Semillon. The Premium Wine Package is priced at $280 per table.

Gin Bar

Another opportunity available to guests is access to our VIP Gin Bar where our cocktail maker will introduce a range of gin flavours while sharing tips on what mixers to use to satisfy everyone's palate. Access to the VIP Gin Bar is $30 per person.

Book the Premium Wine Package and VIP Gin Bar - https://events.humanitix.com.au/streetwork-glam-and-grunge-2018-premium-wine-package-and-vip-gin-bar-offer

Come party at Sydney's historic Paddington Town Hall

Paddington+Town+Hall.jpg

Built in the late 1800s the impressive Paddington Town Hall sits at the highest point on the Oxford Street ridge. Next to the Victoria Barracks the Town Hall has a 32m high clock tower, which was completed in 1905 to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII, dominating the Paddington skyline.  Paddington Town Hall is less than 5km from Sydney's CBD and a magnificent setting for this year's Glam and Grunge.

Help us turn vulnerable young lives around

Glam and Grunge is StreetWork's major annual fundraiser.  At StreetWork, we work to give 'at-risk' youth the same opportunities as their peers - to grow, to achieve their dreams and to develop as a person with high self-esteem. We provide young people with one-on-one mentoring in a bid to break the cycle of destructive behaviours and help them turn their lives around. Over 92% of all funds raised go toward our youth work activities.

If you can't make it ... why not consider donating to our silent auction

If you can't make, we would love if you would consider donating an experience, service, lunch/dinner or goods that we can used as part of our silent auction fundraising efforts. Each donated item will be featured in our silent auction brochure along with a prominent mention of each donor.  All donations are tax deductible and a receipt will be delivered when your donation is received or picked up.  Email events@streetwork.org.au with your donation offer.
