KICKSTART MENTORING

Are you making the right referral to streetwork?

Streetwork is currently prioritising support to high-risk vulnerable young people with an immediate identified need (linking with an accommodation service, accessing AOD counselling, support to meet with police/juvenile justice, etc) or those with no supports at all.

If you are a young person, parent or the Police seeking support - please use the referral link provided - Streetwork Online Referral Form

For all other referring agencies/services, please contact Streetwork to discuss the needs of the young person you want to refer by calling 0473 578 273 or email referral@streetwork.org.au.

The Kickstart mentoring program is our most requested service program which involves working with the young person to set goals that assists them to address the risk factors impacting them and includes connecting them to specialised youth services to address these risks.  Success is improved when the young person is aware that a referral to our service has been made and that they can set goals and develop an action plan, to achieve those goals.  We would appreciate that you have a discussion about this referral with the young person before we make any contact with her.

Please note the following:

  • StreetWork is operating at capacity, and we therefore have an extensive waitlist with an 10-14 week delay in our intake and assessment process and mentoring services.

  • Currently, the client supports we are prioritising are high-risk vulnerable young people with an immediate identified need (linking with an accommodation service, accessing AOD counselling, support to meet with police/juvenile justice, etc) or those with no supports at all.

  • We recommend that you pursue other early intervention and prevention programs offered by youth services/organisations.

SAFER COMMUNITIES FUND - CHANGE YOUR COURSE PROGRAM

If you are referring a young person to the Safer Communities Fund: Change Your Course Program, supporting young people who are impacted by crime, complete the Referral form via www.youthcarenavigator.org.au.

Who is the program for? Change Your Course is a program designed for vulnerable youth - aged between 12 and 24 - who are struggling to break free of the cycle of behaviours associated with crime and matters that have put them in contact with the police, youth justice or the courts.

Program Benefits - The Change Your Course program builds self-confidence and well-being. It develops life skills and resilience. As a result, the young person is supported to break free of criminal behaviours and change their life course.

About the Program - Your young person will be allocated their own case manager who will support them in identifying the goals they need to achieve to address the individual risk factors they face. After the young person sets their goals, their case manager will connect them with the appropriate youth service partners - the specialists - who will help them to achieve their goals.

Service Partners - The specialist youth service partners who support Change Your Course participants include Streetwork Australia, Burdekin Association, The Northern Centre, KYDS Youth Development Services, Phoenix House, Youth Up Front, Payce Foundation and Mentoring Men.

Now there's a path to change. With the right support, most young people will grow out of criminal offending.

This Program is funded by the Australian Government
