Streetwork provides referral and advocacy pathways for young people aged 12–18 who are experiencing vulnerability and may need early, trusted support. Success is improved when the young person is aware that a referral to our service has been made and that he/she can set goals and develop an action plan to achieve those goals.
Below you’ll find information about how to make a referral, who we can currently support, and links to key forms.
Are you making the right referral?
Streetwork is currently prioritising young people who have:
an immediate identified need, such as support connecting them with accommodation services, accessing AOD counselling, or attending police or youth justice appointments or those requiring court supports; or
no existing support networks.

About Kickstart Mentoring
Are you making the right referral to streetwork?
Kickstart is our most frequently requested program. It involves mentoring with a qualified Youth Caseworker to:
- set youth-led goals
- address a young person’s risk factors
- connect young people with specialist youth services
- build protective factors, capability and confidence
Success is strongest when the young person knows a referral has been made and understands that mentoring is a collaborative process. Please ensure you speak with the young person before submitting any referral information.
Important Notes
The Kickstart mentoring program is our most requested service program delivered as outreach and combines case management with a youth work approach. The program involves working with the young person to set goals that assist them to address the risk factors impacting them and includes connecting them to the specialised youth services to address those risks, which may include risks associated with accessing mental health services, school disengagement, securing stable and safe accommodation, legal (police/juvenile justice/court) issues or accessing drug and alcohol supports.
Success is improved when the young person is aware that a referral to our service has been made and that he/she can set goals and develop an action plan, to achieve those goals.
Please note the following:
Currently, the client supports we are prioritising are high-risk vulnerable young people with an immediate identified need (linking with an accommodation service, accessing AOD counselling, support to meet with police/juvenile justice, etc)
Young people with no supports in place.
Before referring to Streetwork we encourage to first exploring a other youth services or local council run youth centre for general youth social and recreational activities.
Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) – Change Your Course (CYC)
Supporting young people impacted by crime
The Change Your Course (CYC) program supports young people aged 12–18 who are seeking help to break away from harmful behaviours linked to police or court involvement.

YOUTH CUSTODY ADVOCATE FORM
Streetwork provides support to young people during police interviews and court appearances through our Youth Custody Advocate volunteers.
If you attended court or a police interview as a Youth Custody Advocate, please complete the Youth Custody Advocate Form to help us understand:
the young person’s needs
the outcome of your advocacy session
any follow-up required
