Streetwork depends upon a dedicated group of volunteers to ensure that our trained, youth services team can spend 100% of their day, mentoring vulnerable young people.

Our volunteers help us in a variety of ways - supporting outreach activities including after school BBQ's, staffing our 24/7 Advocacy Program, helping with fundraising events or with the critical skills and expertise needed to keep our marketing and back-office functioning.    

We're always looking for people to join the Streetwork team and/or one of Streetwork’s three local community boards - Hornsby Ku-ring-gai, North Shore and, Northern Beaches.

BBQ VOLUNTEERS

StreetWork BBQ outreach volunteers

Streetwork’s out-reach BBQs have been cancelled due to Covid restrictions. We’ll be firing up the barbie again, as soon as lock-down ends, and will need volunteers.

BBQs take place from 3 to 5pm in suburbs across North Shore, Hornsby Ku-ring-gai and Northern Beaches.

The role involves running the BBQ, serving sausage sandwiches to young people and their parents or handing out information leaflets. All the equipment and food are delivered to the venue. No specialised skills, other than a happy smile, are required for this role.

Please note that if your application is successful you will be required to undertake a Working With Children Check.

ADVOCACY VOLUNTEERS

StreetWork Advocates at local police stations

Streetwork runs an advocacy service that provides 24/7 support to young people who are arrested on suspicion of criminal activity. During the past 12 months the Streetwork team has provided mentoring programs to 860 medium to high-risk young people and undertaken 6,400 hours of police advocacy at local police stations including North Sydney, Chatswood, Dee Why & Hornsby. 

The aim is to provide support to young people who require a responsible adult to advocate on their behalf.

Streetwork’s volunteer Advocates cover the evening and weekend shifts while Streetwork’s Youth Case Team appear at shifts during business hours. No specialised skills are required for this role. Training is provided. Please note that if your application is successful you will be required to undertake a Working With Children Check.

Streetwork is committed to supporting university and TAFE students studying Youth Services by offering student placement or internships.  

Our marketing team also have limited placements for work experience, innovation program participants and skilled volunteers.
