Do you bring professional expertise, lived experience or community insight that could help shape the future of a pioneering youth organisation? If so, Streetwork invites you to express your interest in joining our Board as a Non-Executive Director.
About Streetwork
Streetwork has been supporting vulnerable young people across Sydney since 1980. Our purpose is to support vulnerable young people in the community to turn young lives around, through early intervention programs and assertive outreach activities designed to engage those aged 12–18 facing complex challenges — including school disengagement, family breakdown, mental health issues, risk of homelessness, substance misuse, or involvement with the youth justice system.
Our dedicated youth services team meets young people where they are – on the streets – and walks beside them with care, consistency, and respect. We believe every young person deserves a chance to thrive, and our work reflects that belief.
The Opportunity
Streetwork is seeking to appoint a Non-Executive Directors who are aligned with our purpose and who can actively contribute to governance, strategic direction, and community impact.
Board members are expected to:
Attend approximately 10 board meetings per year (after hours)
Serve on at least one board subcommittee or strategic pillar committee
Participate in fundraising, advocacy and key stakeholder engagement events
Contribute to achieving the board's fundraising targets
Who We’re Looking For
We are particularly interested in candidates who bring lived experience, community insights, or professional knowledge in one or more of the following high-priority areas:
Lived experience with issues affecting vulnerable youth, or as a family/support person
First Nations or Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) background, or experience working with these communities
Social services sector or people and culture expertise
Young people aged 18–30 are especially encouraged to apply
Essential Criteria
Understanding of the issues impacting the lives of vulnerable young people
Understanding of the legal, financial and fiduciary responsibilities of a Non-Executive Director
Prior board or committee experience (or relevant organisational leadership)
Demonstrated commitment to ethical governance and collaborative leadership
Highly Desirable Skills
Experience in the for-purpose or youth services sector
Passion for youth advocacy and improving cultural diversity
Strategic and financial literacy

Remuneration
This is a voluntary, unpaid role.
Compliance
All successful candidates must obtain a valid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) before appointment.
