First Aid qualification | StreetWork

StreetWork team refreshes First Aid qualifications to ensure youth safety. Prepared for emergencies - because every young person’s well-being matters.

When you're working with young people, their safety is always a key priority.

So the Streetwork team refreshed their First Aid qualifications today, to ensure they're prepared for medical emergencies.

Tyson's adult dummy appears happy to be taking a break from CPR practice.   What do you think - is that a smile?

Thank you Sefton High School StreetWork

A big thank you to Sefton High School and their 2022 secondary school prefects for their support of StreetWork.

Working to a ‘whole of school’ approach, the prefect body is co-ordinating Sefton High School’s students, teachers, and parents and staging a range of fundraising events with StreetWork as the beneficiary.

Their 2022 program revolves around supporting members of the young community by 'lifting school spirits'.  The fundraising events cater to student-teacher engagement and the celebration of special holidays.

Thank you, Sefton High School! Your fundraising supports StreetWork’s youth mentoring programs. Get involved & help at-risk young people thrive.

Like StreetWork, Sefton High School values the positive wellbeing of young people, so in term three, they will dedicate each period of the school day to a different aspect of youth health – social, emotional, mental, and physical.

If your High School wants to be involved in StreetWork’s youth for youth initiatives, raising much-needed funds for our early intervention and prevention program, please get in touch with info@streetwork.org.au.  Every $50 donated funds a mentor session for at-risk, 11-18-year-olds.

Making an Impact With Balgowlah Rotary | Streetwork

Thank you, Balgowlah Rotary!

Your recycling efforts funded 600 mentor sessions for at-risk youth while improving the environment - a double impact.

Across the summer holidays, the club's energetic members collected approximately 1,000 bottles/cans per week and converted them to $$$s under the NSW Government's Return and Earn program.

Balgowlah Rotary Club’s recycling efforts improved the local Northern Beaches environment, and they funded 600 one-on-one Streetwork mentor sessions for vulnerable 11-18-year-olds. That's a double impact and a holiday well spent!

Thank you KFC Foundation | Streetwork

KFC AUS_YOUTH FDN_PRI-Logo-A.jpeg

Thank you, KFC Foundation! Their donation funds 3,000 mentor sessions, helping young Australians build confidence & break free from risky behaviors.

Sarah Collier - KFC Australia, Social Impact and Media Relations – said of the donation, “With around 3/4s of common mental health problems emerging before the age of 25, our youth are under more pressure than ever.  Couple this with the fact they’ve faced two ‘once in a lifetime’ events in their lives, there’s never been more need to support StreetWork and the mental wellbeing of young Australians”.

The KFC Youth Foundation’s donation to Streetwork will give our young people the confidence and mental wellbeing skills that they need to live their best life.  #turningyounglivesaround together with KFC Foundation  #youthmentalwellbeing

Waratah Education Foundation.jpg

Across the next two years the foundation’s generous grant will allow StreetWork to support vulnerable young people to return to school and re-engage with their education.  The 1,600 mentoring sessions funded by the foundation’s grant will make a meaningful and lasting difference to young lives.  “Education plays a vital role in economic empowerment and the transition to meaningful work” says Helen Banu Streetwork’s CEO.

When asked why the foundation chose StreetWork, Geraldine Campbell, CEO of Waratah Education Foundation explained,  “We selected Streetwork because their education outcomes are very much aligned to our goals.  Waratah Education Foundation’s priority is around breaking the cycle of destructive behaviours that result in young people leaving school early and limiting their potential to grow, develop and live their best life ”.

A Young Person's Message of Hope and Confidence | Streetwork

16-year-old Chloe shares a message of hope & confidence through her work experience at Streetwork. See how mentoring transforms young lives.

The people that volunteer at Streetwork find us at different stages of their life and career. Their personal stories are diverse and they join us for long or short periods of time for a variety of reasons. A strong emotional connection with youth is often at the core of their selfless commitment. For the past month we’ve been working with 16 year old Chloe, a high school student who applied for a work experience placement at Streetwork. “I wanted to experience a work environment where I could make a real difference. It was important to me to use my creative skills to communicate a meaningful message" says Chloe. Here's Chloe's digital design - her expression of the hope, confidence and acceptance a vulnerable young person feels after they enter Streetwork's mentor program. Thank you Chloe for an inspiring 4 weeks.

International Women's Day | Streetwork

This International Women's Day, Streetwork celebrates gender equity & empowers young women to challenge bias & build confidence for a brighter future.

We work with vulnerable young women, and many have mentioned that they have been adversely impacted based on gender. It's important that these young women develop the skills and confidence to challenge gender inequities and biases now and into the future. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive society where young women are respected and regarded as equals by challenging others when we hear or see things that are bias.

Each of us has a hand up high - we choose to challenge!

International Youth Day | Streetwork

International-Youth-Day_ss_476765965.jpg

This International Youth Day, we celebrate resilience & Streetwork’s efforts in supporting vulnerable young people to overcome challenges & thrive.

Today marks International Youth Day, a day that is important every year, but this year even more so, given the impact of COVID. Many young people would not have experienced the kind of adversity that we are currently going through and similarly may not have developed the kind of resilience that is needed to survive and thrive through this period.

On this International Youth Day, we want to acknowledge the hard work delivered by the Streetwork youth services team who continue to support vulnerable young people in community to turn their lives around.
